This is a portrait of London based artist Jason Atomic and multi-talented muse Honey Manko at the opening night of the Babylon Academy Art Show at Kunsthaus Tacheles in Berlin on 6 June 2008. I met both of them in Tokyo and was intrigued by their strong personalities and talent.
Jason Atomic is known best for his quick live sketches, his clean fluid lines and bold splattered colours, his cartoony insect tags, his love of dolls, masks, tart cards, voodoo and street fashion. Working on giant rolls of paper he has become well known for his life sized quick sketch portraiture, sketching as a performance event in clubs and galleries around the world.
In the summer of 2008, he set a world land speed record for portraiture at the National Portrait Gallery in London. He does freelance design work for Tokyo fashion house Milkboy and is known to perform with the demonic pop group of Johnny Deluxe, Fist Fuck Deluxe.
Honey Manko says she’s a muse, but this multi-talented woman has made quite a reputation for herself as a fashion designer, hostess of her own satirical radio show, a Suicidegirl model, photographer and filmmaker. Manko deconstructs clothes, cities and people for her amusement. Her musehood factor has inspired paintings, sculptures, songs and book characters from London to Tokyo. Manko and Jason have lived together for 7 years. They are married, but not to each other.
